The perfect Maldives family holidays combines luxury and relaxation for the grown-ups and fun and freedom for the kids. Of course, children can be happy with a bucket and spade, the sea and the sand, but for your Maldives family holidays to be truly special, you know you need a bit more than that.
Here we have chosen our favourite resorts which we feel offer the best for families. We have selected them for their top-quality facilities for children – and parents – and because they go that extra mile to make sure your holiday is one to remember.
Maldives Family Holidays for those who love nature.
Soneva Fushi tops our list for Maldives family holidays because of its back-to-nature lack of pretentiousness. It has family at the centre of its ethos so you will find that everything has been created with all the family in mind. It offers the usual calendar of activities in its kids club, The Den, but it also marks out time to spend with Mum and Dad. Here the emphasis is on quality time spent together, in the beautiful and safe surroundings of this natural paradise.
Maldives Family Holidays for those who love luxury.
In our opinion, Cheval Blanc is one of the most luxurious Maldives family holidays, and it offers brilliant experiences for children too. The island has two kids clubs: Le Carrousel for younger children and Le Paddock for teenagers, both designed to offer the freedom enjoy the island without constant supervision from parents. The younger children are looked after by Ambassadeurs, a team of trained staff who will entertain and educate with a series of well-thought-out activities, ranging from crafts to sports, and storytelling to cooking. For older kids, Le Paddock gives them a safe space away from their parents to socialise, play games and chill out, again with a range of activities to enjoy.
This attention to detail continues in the villas. We loved the wooden treasure boxes in every room, a place for children to store all their special finds during their stay. The rooms also feature many nice little touches including colouring books.
Children under four stay on the island on a complimentary basis while those over four are charged $220 per night extra.
Maldives Family Holidays for those want affordable luxury.
We like Atmosphere Kanifushi at it is both affordable and luxurious. It offers one of the only truly 5* all-inclusive plans in the Maldives and this makes it a great place for your Maldives family holiday. Here you can let the kids pick exactly what they want without worrying about the additional cost.
The comprehensive kids club offers a calendar of great activities, each lasting half and hour and ranging from learning to make a bandana, dance like a pirate, stretch like a cat or walk like a crab. Every day ends with storytime so your kids will be ready for a good night’s sleep. Babysitting is available for children under four, though this is at an additional cost.
We really liked the Sunset Family Villas which are made up of two interconnecting beach villas with separate outdoor access. They are designed specially for family holidays and give you the room to relax along with the peace of mind of knowing the children are right next door.
The only downside of this island is that it does not offer the best snorkelling direct from shore but other than this you will struggle to find a better island for families.
